Azura Class Capital Platform

As one Flickr commenter put it, does Nnenn "ever stop being awesome?" Exhibit 1: Azura Class Capital Platform.

John Hancock

I passed over this in my run of Micropolis MOCs in the lead-up to BrickWorld, but Sean Kenney recently unveiled his take on the John Hancock Center.

The building itself is quite impressive, but I really love the life down on the street level.

It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.- Hit it.

Classic Space

Space fans surely know the work of Peter Reid (Legoloverman). Recently he's turned his hand to microscale, with neo-classic micro space. Of course his work is amazing, but I'm particularly impressed by some of the techniques he's come up with to do it in micro, like the way the

Mini Opera

Via The Brothers Brick I came across this beautifully, not to mention ingeniously built Sydney Opera House by flickr user brainbike.rider or Stefan as he was called on TBB. The use of the rebel helmet pieces is, in a word, inspired.

BrickWorld

I've been playing up the group Micropolis build a lot on this blog, but the other reason that BrickWorld is great for the micro fan is three of our top micro architects, Spencer Rezkalla and Arthur Gugick Adam Reed Tucker are usually there.

Micropolis is here!

The first pics from BrickWorld are starting to come in, and were getting our first glimpse of the group Micropolis display from Nannan Z and Joe Meno. One thing Joe is doing that is quite cool is getting builders to pose with their MOCs, so here we see Nathan Stohlmann, aka nstohlma with one of his micro-modules. It's nice for those of us who haven't been to fests to put a face with the builder - so often I think of people by the avatar they use in various forums.

While we're waiting for people to start posting photos from BrickWorld, let's admire Twinlug's dry run. Last week they brought together 50+ of the Micropolis modules they're bringing to the convention.

Micropolis

If you're attending BrickWorld, starting today, be sure to bring a micropolis standard module to add to a huge group display. Mookage made this monster attack for the Reasonably Clever contest (not sure if this will be at BrickWorld).

Micropolis

BrickWorld is just hours away. This is always a great fest for the micro fan because Spencer Rezkalla, Arthur Gugick and Adam Reed Tucker are all regular attendees. This year, though, I'm highly anticipating the micropolis standard group display. It looks like Joe Meno will be bringing two skyscrapers.

In a pickle

Kaptain Kobold presents the HMS Pickle and the Trafalgar Dispatch. Here's his description:
On 21st October 1805, a British fleet under Admiral Lord Nelson defeated a combined Franco-Spanish fleet just off Cape Trafalgar in Spain. Nelson was killed during the action.

After the battle the 10-gun sloop HMS Pickle, under Lieutenant John Richards Lapenotiere, was chosen to bear the news of the victory, and Nelson's death, back to Britain. It arrived at Falmouth on 4th November, and Lieutenant Lapenotiere then travelled up to London by coach.

In 2005, as part of the bicentenery celebrations of the battle, his journey was recreated, and passed through my home town.

This vignette shows HMS Pickle about to embark on its journey back to Britain. Behind it is Nelson's flagship, HMS Victory, now preserved at Portsmouth and currently the oldest commisioned warship in the world.

Taj, again

Arthur Gugick has been commissioned to build a model of the Taj Mahal as part of an Australian film. He's discussed that various places, like the previous edition of BrickJournal, and I'm looking forward to this coming out in theaters. This'll be the coolest geek-online-community movie connection since someone I used to correspond with on rec.arts.books.tolkien was a consultant for the Peter Jackson movies. To celebrate the completion of filming he built a new, smaller version.
