Hatteras Lighthouse
When LEGO opens new stores, they hold great events that often include giveaways of limited run sets to the first X customers. Ash-274 has a great gallery of these, including the http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=386278, which was given out at the opening of the Raleigh, NC, store on May 29. Apparently the real lighthouse is a 140-year old landmark in North Carolina that is the tallest lighthouse in the US, at 198.5 feet. This model is significantly shorter.

Micropolis Collaborative Display at Brickworld 2009
With Brickworld 2009 being only 15 days away, it's time to get building! This year, Roy Cook is in charge of the microscale collaborative display; and he asked me to share this with everyone:
The first-ever massive Micropolis collaborative layout will be held at Brickworld this year. Your task: To construct one or more Micropolis modules to add to the huge city layout. The micropolis standard can be found here and a number of sample MOCs built according to the standard can be found at the recent Micropolis 'Bad Day' building contest at Reasonably Clever.
We are hoping to have a HUGE layout, and already have a large number of modules confirmed.
Get building, and have fun!So if you're going to be at Brickworld 2009 in Chicago, please check out the display.

Micro? Hardly...
Flickr user buildingxyz has a gallery of pictures with a huge microscale city, I quote, "Imaginary city made of LEGO bricks. Presented in Seoul, South Korea in December 2007." Slightly old though these photos may be, they were only just uploaded, and to the best of my knowledge this blog has not covered this before. Whatever the story is behind this, this city is truly a cool, and huge, microMoc.

The littlest gunship
How small can you build a SW ship and have it still be recognizable. I once made some tiny TIEs. Moosebot has thrown down the gauntlet by claiming he has the smallest ever Republic Gunship. Can anyone rise to the challenge and go smaller?

Bad day for Micropolis winners
Results are in over at the Bad Day for Micropolis contest. The Bad Day category was taken by Roguebantha's Sad Day. Basic Module category was won by Vito's Twin Tower Hotel. Double category by Rook's Repair shop and landing port, and the Doubleplusgood category by Brian Kasprzyk's Independance Day. BTW, thanks to Model Building Secrets for the heads-up. Check out all of the entries, they were awesome. I'm going to have to go back and highlight more of these.

I will spread my wings and fly.
Flickr user EdgeDonkey built this crafty little ship, The Aztec Gold. It is a most inventive use of the inca headdress piece. The look really conveys a sense of wings spread in flight.
Edit: As I was recently informed, edgedonkey is actually Mac Reddin, one of the new posters here at Microbricks. I am also, quite obviously, a newcomer to this blog myself.

Fallingwater and Guggenheim
I've previously griped that the first offerings in the LEGO Architecture line by Adam Reed Tucker of Brickstructures were fairly simple models. While they were good souvenir shop pieces for the general public, an AFOL could easily reproduce them from their existing collections just by seeing the photo. The same cannot be said of the next two sets, recently announced by the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, the iconic Fallingwater and Guggenheim. These are just beautiful. I take back everything I said before. Via the Brothers Brick. Not sure when these will be for sale, but I definitely want these.

I've noted these sets before, but nori-gallery has comprehensive pictures of the LEGO Architecture sets designed by Adam Reed Tucker, including box art, the included pamphlets, parts included and completed models: Sears Tower, John Hancock Center, Empire State Building and Space Needle.
