Puerta de Europa

Peter previously blogged about the Euromap display, in which five builders constructed a huge (fifteen square meters) LEGO map of Europe and twenty different people contributed forty-four microscale versions of famous European landmarks. All of the different MOCs are outstanding, so they certainly merit another look. Here is Carlos Mendez Potes' rendition of the Puerta de Europa in Madrid.

It looks like the next set in the Architecture series will be 21007, Rockefeller Center.




No details yet on Lego.com - the first sets (the John Hancock Center, the Empire State Building and the Space Needle) were called the "Landmark Series" and the next ones (Fallingwater and the Guggenheim) were called the "Architect Series". Next up is supposed to be the "Discovery Series". Oddly, the Sears Tower set has disappeared from the Lego.com site, but is still there on Adam's BrickStructures page.

Edit - The Brothers-Brick came up with a better picture. Set designer Adam Reed Tucker is donating a signed copy of the set to Creations for Charity, a great charity where you can buy MOCs by some of your favorite builder and all of the proceeds go to kids. Apparently set 21007, Rockefeller Center, is going to be released in early 2011.

The deadline is only a few hours away (midnight tonight) for the Mini Castle Contest VI. If you build something today you can still get it in. The two most recent entries are Spartacus' Cliff Castle and Bartosza6m's Castle of the Rising Sun.

Nürnberg Castle

When LEGO opens new stores, they usually produce an exclusive model as a giveaway at the opening event. This past Saturday a new store opened in Nürnberg, Germany, and the exclusive was a micro version of Nürnberg Castle.

Set 10214 - Tower Bridge

It's been a long time since I've done set focuses, and I haven't written about Set 10214 - Tower Bridge since it was released. This set has been available via LEGO.com for the last month or so. Coming in at US$240 and 4287 pieces, this is a massive set. Just the 556 tan cheese wedges alone have many excited. Another unique part is the pair of unique shields. As a castle guy I'd love to outfit a faction with this heraldry, but these will run you at least $2.50 on Bricklink. Ktraphagen did a great job of documenting the building process and you can see a video with the set's designer. ADHO16 made a virtual version.

Porschecm2 came up with a great part usage in Solus Saxum for the Mini Castle Contest. Those trees are made from a decorative spine piece that shows up in one Ben 10 set, so you can't really be blamed if you didn't know what that was.
