Grand Hotel

Unhalfbricking made use of the Viking snake tile and some other interesting decorative techniques to create this Grand Hotel.

I love the diagonal windows on each end. I assume that they are 1x1 plates, inserted stud first.

Air Show Acrobats

Flickr user Tervlon posted a clever MOC of two micro stunt planes. I love the spiral smoke trails made from 1x2 trans clear plates. Must have taken a lot of patience!

Taaval

Kahal Dare uses the tooth plate to create a dramatic spacecraft which he's named Taaval.

One more Vic Viper

Wondering what to do with those skis from the Series 2 collectible minifigure skier? Mainman used them to build this sleek Vic Viper. In the caption, he offers a few hints about the building techniques he used. Apparently, this piece plays an important part.

Here it is paired with a nano VV.

Olympus

The Home of the Gods, perched atop Mt. Olympus, as created by Auric.

I'm one of those builders who starts by putting pieces together, but I admire those who plan out their work. Auric started with some concept sketches, which he includes in his photoset. Be sure to check them out.

Here's a micro castle that Jeff VW made as a planning model for a minifig-scale castle. So far, only half of the big castle has been completed.

micro crane

Over the years, AFOLs have come up with lots of different ways to represent continuous tracks in micro. Most techniques involve stretching a tire, like this or this.

This tank by Fredoichi uses the narrow Technic link chain wrapped around a Technic liftarm.

The designers at LEGO came up with a simple solution for the micro crane in the 2010 City Advent Calendar, set 2824. They used a Technic liftarm.



Other micro vehicles in set 2824 include a bulldozer, a fire truck, an airplane, and a helicopter. See them all in this photo review.

Humvee

Commander Hawk presents a very tiny Humvee.

As best I can tell, the wheels (black 1x1 round plates) are attached to this part, which is the same technique used for vehicles in the new Tower Bridge set.

Blacktron Ground Assault Force

RogueBantha just added to his fleet of Blacktron micro mocs.



The walkers use a technique I haven't seen before: a lever inserted into a 1x2 slotted slope.

A-10 Warthog

Flickr user tbone_tbl posted some photos of a micro A-10 Warthog.



The A-10 engines are mounted high on the fuselage, making them a challenge for a micro-scale model. Tbone posted this photo of the technique he used to attach the engines.

Pentastar

MisaQa's Advent Calendar project continues. Pentastar features a great technique for building a roof and spire that captures the feel of the Chrysler Building.

Nakagin Capsule Tower

The Nakagin Capsule Tower already looks like it was made of LEGO elements. Flickr user SPACE, TIME & REALITY figured out how to build it in microscale.



Included in the photoset is this helpful photo showing how each capsule was made.

wing technique

A few days ago, fredoichi posted a photo of his Makoto Zero Sky Fighter, which used 2x2 trapezoid flags as the wings, with a couple of Technic half-pins clipped to the front edge of the flag/wing. I think it's a new technique.



Legoloverman used that technique to build three new spacecraft, Blacktron F-Bomber, Blacktron Space Raider, and Space Police Viper.



But legoloverman didn't just copy. He added a few twists of his own. First, he used lever bases instead of the half-pins. Then he doubled up the trapezoid flags to produce larger front wings for the Space Police Viper. Finally, the tail fins of that ship are made by overlapping two trapezoid flags on the same bar.
